Minutes of the May 5th, 2010 Meeting

of

The Morris County Fire Prevention Association

The meeting was called to order at 10:09 AM by President Michael Pellek, who welcomed and thanked all 17 in attendance. Mike stressed that everyone should remember that the June meeting on Wednesday the 2nd is at 7:00 PM and not 7:30 PM because we will be celebrating the poster contest winners and their families.  Please come in uniform.  A brief meeting will follow the award presentation.

Paul Elenio gave the State Report which is attached.

Craig Babcock gave a report on the State Association which included the General Meeting held on the 29th of April in Atlantic City at the Taj Mahal during the New Jersey Building Safety Conference, which he attended.  His draft minutes from that meeting will appear soon on the State Association website.

There is No Golf Outing this year.

Jack Alderton gave a report on the status of training at the Academy. They have 60 Junior Firefighters signed up for training in the Fall.  They were expecting a maximum of 30.  They will do split sessions.  Jack said he has a few copies of the unclassified but for Official Use Only intelligence briefing on the Times Square bombing attempt which he is willing to share.  He strongly suggested that we go online and take Autism Training which is required of EMTs before the end of the year.  Fire Personnel have longer but it is going to be mandatory.  He challenged us to try to take the training on "NJ Learn."  There will be regional testing, a pencil exam, for those who completed Fire Inspector training and were left high and dry.  It could not be determined if the exam is on the NJ Version or the entire 2006 IFC. The next Fire Inspector training-for-certification course will be given at the Academy starting in September.

The By-Laws committee has not brought forth any proposal's for changing the imperfect system used last year for electing officers.  Given how long it takes to make a by-law change we will probably need to hold the election the same way we did last year

There was no Old Business.

Under New Business:

Paul Elenio reminded us to keep an eye on Carnival's.  Their rides should have two stickers.  One is a registration sticker and the other is a green inspections sticker that means the ride has been inspected and is safe.  A red sticker means it cannot be used.  Some green stickers have been known to move around among the rides.  If you have any questions or concerns call Ride Safety which is manned in Trenton at 609-292-2099.

The Netcong Parade is May 22nd and the Association voted to contribute $125 for the purchase of a 1st place trophy.

Under Good and Welfare it was noted that both Paul Allen and Rich Silvia had recently lost their mothers.  The Secretary will send a sympathy card to each from the Association.

The meeting was adjourned at10:55 A.M.

The next meeting is Wednesday June 2th at 7:00 PM at the Morris County Public Safety Training Academy in a room to be named later.

Respectfully submitted,

Craig Babcock
